Book Planning vs. Procrastination: A God-Given Nudge to Start Today

There’s a moment in every aspiring author’s journey where excitement meets hesitation. You feel the urge to write, the vision stirring inside, but then come the doubts, distractions, and delays. Days turn into weeks. Weeks into years. And that book God placed on your heart? Still unwritten.

Sound familiar?

You’re not alone. Many purpose-driven writers struggle with procrastination—not because they lack passion, but because they haven’t developed a straightforward, Spirit-led plan to get started.

Let’s tell the truth: procrastination often hides behind what we call “preparation.” We say we’re waiting for the right time… or for clarity… or for confirmation. However, the truth is that God may be waiting for us.

He already gave you the message.
He already brought you through the testimony.
Now, it’s time to respond in obedience.

Here’s something to reflect on:

  • Are you overthinking the “how” and ignoring the “why”?

  • Are you stuck trying to write it all at once instead of building it step by step?

  • Have you allowed fear of imperfection to silence your momentum?

You don’t need a perfect plan—you just need a faithful first step.

A simple book plan can help you go from overwhelmed to organized:

  • Choose 3–5 key themes from your life or testimony

  • Brainstorm 3 stories or life lessons under each theme

  • Write a short paragraph or audio record one story each week

  • Pray over your outline and ask God to lead your words, not your worries

You’ll be amazed how fast a book comes together when you give yourself grace to start small.

Planning gives you structure.
Faith gives you courage.
God gives you the oil.
