Creating a Prayer Space at Home: A Sanctuary for Your Soul

There is something sacred about having a place that is just for you and God.

Not the kitchen table where you also pay bills. Not the bedroom where your mind races through tomorrow's list. A place—even a small, simple one—that signals to your body and your spirit: this is where we meet with God.

If you have ever felt that your prayer life needs more consistency, more depth, or simply more peace, creating a dedicated prayer space at home may be one of the most practical and powerful things you can do.

You Don't Need Much Space

A prayer space does not require a spare room or a special piece of furniture. Many of the most faithful women I have walked with created their sacred space in a corner of a bedroom, at a small table by a window, or even in a comfortable chair with a basket beside it holding their Bible and journal.

What matters is not the size of the space.

What matters is the intention behind it.

When you return to the same place each day to pray, your body begins to recognize it as sacred. You sit down, and something in you settles. The noise of the day grows quieter. And God, who is always present, feels closer.

What to Include in Your Prayer Space

Here are a few simple elements that can help your prayer space feel intentional and inviting:

Your Bible—open or closed, it belongs in your space. Even seeing it there before you sit down is a reminder of whose voice you are coming to hear.

A journal or notebook—writing your prayers is one of the most powerful ways to track what God is doing in your life. When you look back over months of entries, you will see His faithfulness clearly written in your own hand. That record can one day become a chapter of your legacy book.

Something that brings you to stillness — a candle, a small plant, a meaningful photograph, a piece of fabric in a color that calms you. There is no formula. Ask yourself: what helps me slow down and feel present?

A prayer list or scripture cards — names of people you are interceding for, promises you are standing on, words God has spoken to you in previous seasons. These become anchors.

A Simple Way to Begin

If you do not have a prayer space yet, start today with what you have.

Choose one spot in your home. Clear it of clutter. Place your Bible there. Sit down.

You do not need to redecorate. You do not need to wait until you have the perfect chair or the right candle. You just need to begin — because your prayer life does not grow from planning it. It grows in the showing up.

Start with ten minutes. The same spot. At the same time, if you can manage it.

And watch what God does in that quiet.

Your Prayer Space and Your Legacy

Here is something I want you to consider: the prayers you pray in that sacred corner of your home are not just for today.

They are building something.

Every journal entry, every scripture you underline, every name you bring before God—these are the threads of a story that is still being written. And when you are ready, those threads can become a testimony. A legacy. A book that your grandchildren will hold and know, she prayed. She believed. She kept going.

A prayer space is where legacy begins—long before the writing ever starts.
